Through our partnership with Cadent, Enabling Independence provides enhanced support to residents experiencing fuel poverty, energy affordability challenges, or vulnerability relating to gas and energy services.

Together, we help households access specialist support, improve energy efficiency, reduce costs, and connect with services that improve safety and wellbeing.

How Cadent Referrals Work

Identifying Need
Residents may be referred through welfare assessments, home visits, advocacy services, partner organisations, or advice appointments. Common issues include:

Difficulty paying energy bills

Fuel poverty

Energy debt or arrears
-
Unsafe heating arrangements
-
Health conditions, disabilities, or caring responsibilities
-
Lack of awareness of available support schemes

Assessment and Referral
A Enabling Independence advisor will assess the resident's circumstances and identify whether additional energy-related support is required.
With the resident’s consent, a referral can be made for:

Priority Services Register applications

Energy efficiency advice
-
Gas safety and carbon monoxide information

Energy affordability support
-
Access to grants and specialist services

Coordinated Support
Enabling Independence continues to provide welfare benefits advice, income maximisation support, and wider casework while Cadent and its partners deliver specialist energy-related assistance.
This joined-up approach ensures residents receive support with both their immediate energy needs and the wider financial issues affecting their household.
